Author Ask Tag!
phew.. so I’ve been tagged quite a bit: thank you to @aromanticsky , @asher-writes , @oliolioxenfreewrites , @theink-stainedfolk , and @aalinaaaaaa for the tags!
my bad if I missed anyone who also tagged me I’m working on catching up with these ^^
I’ll be doing A Golem’s Guide for this one !
———
What is the main lesson of your story?
People are not 100% good. Nor are they 100% evil. If someone does something wrong, what matters is what they do after. If someone does something right, what matters is if they keep that up. (Very shaky but this is the general lesson idk lol)
What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding?
My inspiration comes from a lot of things (music, things I read, stuff from dreams) but I never really committed to writing all of them down, lols
What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help the reader grow as a person?
Arbor’s main goal throughout the story is to figure out who he was, and figure out if he can be redeemed for what he’s done. My goal, simply put, is to finish the damn story (/hj), but inspiring and entertaining others is always a plus to me!
How many chapters is your story going to have?
Uh. Next question? (I dont know yet.)
Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?
Original! And I think I’ll finally make an AO3 for it too.
When did you start writing?
I remember getting a letter in fifth grade to join a poetry club (I kept a notebook on me and scribbled sometimes) (I didn’t end up going). I’ve only started taking writing seriously since about last January, so a year or so.
Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? What other writers do you follow?
If something doesn’t seem to work out, be it a plotline or an arc or just something, take a step back and come back to it with fresh eyes. Works wonders, trust me. As for the lovely people I follow… well there’s quite a bit but I’d like to pass the mic to a few in particular (in a no pressure way ofc); @write-with-will @sunflowerrosy @thebookishkiwi @abiteofhoney @corinneglass and @vesanal !
and I think I’ll also…
taglist time! no pressure as always <3
@sableglass @dioles-writes @viridis-icithus @allaboutmagic @paeliae-occasionally
@astor-and-the-endless-ink @vsnotresponding @nightlylaments @ancientmyth
@thebookishkiwi @verdant-mainframe @threedaysgross @fifis-corner @bamber344
@seafloor509 @viwritesthings @abiteofhoney @rumeysawrites @pizzamanstan
@vesanal
oh and also open tag!
Blanks under the cut!

Introduction Post!! ✨
edit: Oct. 14
-> HI HELLO!! My name is Jes and my pronouns are he/him
-> I write on ao3 under the user Can_Opener
-> i have the same @ over on bluesky :) (link: crazylittlejester)
-> I primarily write LU stuff but also I have my own Links Meet AU over on @linked-through-the-centuries! (Here’s the link to the fic on ao3) (it is slow to update, not abandoned!!!!) (if you have questions you can ask me about my blorbos on this acc or the lttc blog, either is fine :) )
-> WHUMPTOBER FIC MASTERLIST
-> Jes’s Miscellaneous Modern Au
-> Fic Master List
-> FIC REQUESTS: CLOSED FOR RN!! but im keeping the linked post about it HERE because i’ll open em back up when i finish what i have :)
-> Asks are always open and anons are back on! Feel free to speak your thoughts, drop in and say hi, share headcanons, theories and/or ideas, I love to read them! You can say whatever you want. I am dyslexic and autistic and it’s hard for me to read tone through text and also the words in general sometimes, so please try to be very clear when you talk to me so I can understand, I am unfortunately also stupid :/
-> I’m also totally fine with DMs, HOWEVER: Please speak incredibly clearly to me, again I struggle with understanding tone. I am fine with DMs if your intention is to YAP, because who am I to silence a yapper?? Speak to me about your interests, I will listen >:) I am not okay with: vague/threatening messages, venting without asking, spam. If you wanna chat or talk that’s absolutely fine, I love talkin’ to people and I’m totally down :) Basically just be kind to me, I am a person too, I do have feelings and such
-> sometimes my dms are mean and like to not notify me so i also have a discord, if you want that just shoot me a dm and ask :)
-> This is my sideblog but I seriously treat it like my main blog at this point. I mainly post Zelda/LU thoughts, but you will see me talkin’ about other random things
My yaps all have #jes talks in the tags, my fics are #jes fic, any asks y’all send are posted with #jes ask, #jes rambles is me losing my mind most of the time, #jes rants is more serious and personal stuff, and my art on the rare instance where i post it is tagged with #jes art
Remember to drink some water and take care of yourselves! :)

IMPORTANT!
I've seen some of my moots post New Year Resolution lists/To-do lists so I thought I'd share mine. It contains important information my mutuals deserve to know.
I suppose you all don't remember my WIP The Lady of Ithilien.
Don't worry, it's a very small thing I've never really talked about. Enna? Eönwë? I don't know who these people are (just kidding, of course). Well, I have to announce that it will no longer be a WIP. It won't be a WIP for a long time, since I don't plan on posting new chapters until the latter part of this year and possibly even early 2026.
Much has changed since I posted chapter 3 back in April. I've created many, many, many OCs and some of them will appear in the story quite soon. As such, I need to have them completely (or semi-completely) figured out (full names, lineage, background, personality and role within the plot) BEFORE I start writing about them.
This is why answering character asks will be my main priority for early 2025 at the very least. I need to know who my characters are before I write them and make a mess. Please send as many asks as you can (even random questions), so that I can flesh them out as much as possible. Even stupid questions are okay. Seemingly stupid questions—I reckon questions are never stupid—are actually the best because they force me to think. Trust me, I do need to think 😂 it's the overthinking part that which I don't like.
I was re-reading the LOI prologue last night and I couldn't help but notice how different Ioreth's personality is if compared to how I wrote her character just two chapters later. She sort of has some of the same traits, but she's much more gentle and understanding in the prologue than she is later, and I don't think Enna "misbehaving" could trigger such a massive change in her personality if she hadn't shown signs of being a complete b*tch beforehand. Luckily for me, I haven't written much yet, so that issue could be easily solved by deleting the prologue and reposting it separately as a general introduction to Enna as a character. I have already copied the prologue in my AO3 drafts in case I decide go through with it, but I will wait a while longer before I make a decision since I'm notoriously volatile and change my mind every five seconds about everything. This example is just to show how writing instinctively and without thinking can impact things in the long run, so I definitely need to develop my characters. That's the first thing I intend to do this year.
Second, I need to finish the Tolkien OC Week one-shots that should've been done by the end of this past August. I am still working on the one-shot for Day 5 and I have changed my mind about the prompt for Day 6 at least a billion times. I have to expand the one for Day 7 and finish the one-shot for day 1 (Maiarin world-building is the stuff of nightmares).
Plus, I need to make sure that I don't further change my mind about things I've already written, which is something I unfortunately always end up doing. I change my mind all the time and it's honestly kind of debilitating at this point. I feel like I'll never finish anything and it's disheartening.
I legit can't stop coming up with newer ideas that I think are better than the old ones and replacing stuff I've already written with new scenarios. The thing is, my excitement wears off pretty quickly and I soon get even better ideas that quickly replace the new ones. It's a never-ending cycle which needs to stop ASAP.
I do plan to make some changes to the LOI chapters I've already posted. I'll edit the story before I resume posting later this year/next year. I've planned the following changes so far:
Possibly take out the prologue and reposting it separately [the reasons for this change are mentioned above]. Should that be the case, LOI will start with chapter 1. I haven't really made up my mind about this though. I kind of don't want to delete it because, in doing so, I would lose all my comments and comments are very important to me, but I suppose I could screenshot them, print them and frame them 😂
Change Eönwë's Quenya lines in what is now Chapter 2 to Valarin. I mean, the guy is basically in a coma and starts speaking in a second/third language? I know that Maiar and Valar are supposed to be more or less masters of all languages, but I think it would make much more sense if he muttered stuff in Valarin rather than Quenya. I did not think of this when I first wrote the chapter a year ago and I wasn't not yet obsessed with Turkish period dramas.
Carefully review the parts of Chapter 4 that I have already written and make major adjustments. Write new parts that make more sense considering the events that have just occurred story-wise (don't worry, I won't discard anything. The "current" chapter 4 will be pushed back in the timeline and possibly become Chapter 7 or 8.
Pay a lot more attention to grammar and spelling. I usually don't mind it when other writers make spelling mistakes, but when it happens to me...it's a whole other matter entirely. I've been learning English for a long time and the fact that I still make that kind of mistakes—mostly due to distraction—really irks me. I'm talking capitalization issues, wrong vowels and such. I know how to write correctly and I cannot stress how I roll my eyes whenever I spot misspelled words I perfectly know how to write. And it usually happens after re-reading the same paragraph four or five times.
Stop adding lore to asks I've already posted. How are people going to keep up if I keep adding more and more things? I literally posted the Eleniel/Celebrían ask on New Year's Day and I've edited the post twice already because I obviously came up with slightly different concepts and ideas. It's been two days and I have no doubt I'll come up with slightly different variations of things anytime I re-read the post. I don't think it's fair to the person who sent the ask (@lucifers-legions in this case, but it could be anyone) to keep changing things. I never do it on purpose (it's more of an impulse things), but I need to make decisions and stick to them. People should be able to read the answers to my asks without stressing over what I'm going to change. This applies to everyone sending asks (anons and mutuals alike), but it's even more important when someone is borrowing your characters for their story. So, I plan to be better and I really hope I will succeed. Also, constantly updating things is not good for me either (I forget half of the stuff and get confused, which is...not ideal)
Try and work on all the other asks I have queued. They include a second unusual OC/creator questions ask from @fishing4stars, four more from @lucifers-legions (three character asks and one fic-request), one from @dilettantefeminist, one from @jhelenivarsimae, one from @quillofspirit and two from @saurongorthaur9 (one character ask and one fic-request). I have started some of these and for others I had ideas which I momentarily abandoned/discarded. What I am trying to say is that I HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN about these and that I'm working on them. I wish I could put things out more quickly, but...you know me by now. I'm slow. And I wish I wasn't.
Try and be more organized. I have a bunch of random files and notes that need to be neatly stored somewhere. My brain is a mess as it is and it doesn't need any more distractions.
Speaking of distractions...Tumblr (and social media in general) happens to be one. While I love scrolling through my feed here...it prevents me from actually writing and planning. Which is why I think it won't be surprising if I take even longer breaks from it. Despite this, I would like to keep in contact with all the awesome people I've met on here so. You can text me on Insta (I can give it to you via text on here) or you can email me if you like. Just text me and we'll talk about it. I'll still come back to Tumblr every once in a while (I'll never deactivate my account or things like that), but...I think I need to take drastic measures to stay focused and actually update my fics. I'll come back here to reply to the asks I get and to comments and texts I might get, but I don't think I'll ever be as active as I once was. Maybe I will be again one day, but I need to work on my concentration skills first (I honestly think I might have ADHD and I kind of would like to get it checked out. I've been doing some reading about it and most of the symptoms I have are a match for ADHD. It might also not be the case, but...I don't know.)
Update (sometime down the line) my masterlist, make it more pretty to look at and make a headcanon list to be kept in my files and also to be posted here. Most of my asks are buried somewhere and I need to keep them all in the same place so that I can easily find them. Not urgent, but also...quite urgent.
All in all, I would like to thank all of you for your continued support and thank you for putting up with me. 💕
I understand I can be a pain and I'm sorry (I'm honestly starting to think Enna and I are the same person. She's just way more unlucky)
PS: *As a testament to my overthinking, it seems I cannot stop thinking about that darn prologue (it's been LITERAL HOURS since I first queued this post and it's been haunting me ever since). Ioreth's characterization is my main issue with it at the moment, but, on second thoughts, I suppose that the whole "personality change" issue could be attributed to her acting nice while Enna was a young child in an attempt to gain her trust and manipulate her into thinking that she was way better than her mother. That's kind of plausible. She basically gaslighted her throughout her childhood and started showing her true colors when Enna grew up and started to "rebel". Okay, that's more or less fine, I suppose.
It's just that the prologue is set in Ithilien and the first chapter is literally a year later in Minas Tirith and she's already met Mairon. Mmm...🤔
Should I add a few chapters in between showing Enna's pre-drama daily life, her lessons with the most sensible tutor in Middle-earth aka Finnas, her moving to Minas Tirith with Faramir and Elboron, introduce her two main attendants and address the differences between her life in Ithilien and in Minas Tirith? Should I also include a chapter where she meets Mairon and he starts manipulating right off the bat?
I'm literally debating whether I should rewrite the story from the start [the most complicated option what will probably cause me to abandon the fic altogether], add the extra chapters between the prologue and Chapter 1 [if that ends up happening, the prologue will go back to being Chapter 1 and the other chapters will follow accordingly], or just delete the prologue and leave everything else as it is now [the easiest option]
In any case, I doubt I'll be able to post anything before next October/November, my ultimate deadline being early to mid 2026.
IF I DON'T UPDATE BY THEN...then you're allowed to consider the story officially discontinued/abandoned.
Writing LOI requires a lot of work and hopefully finishing off the one-shots first will give me inspo and motivation to work on the story. If not, Elenwë and all my OCs will only live in my mind and in the one-shots that are already posted.
Also, all the planned fics I listed on my masterlist... probably won't happen either. Let's be realistic, I'll never ever get to them in this lifetime. I get distracted too often, I can't meet deadlines and I'm never satisfied with my own work. I am never happy about it. Perhaps I'm just not cut out for writing. Maybe I should stop writing right this instant.
Lastly, I would like to thank all of my moots for their unwavering support. I have met so many wonderful people here and, even if I stop writing, I'll always keep reading and commenting!

Hey, I'll be polite first obviously, how are you?
do you have some fanfics you like so much about Palletshipping?
I'm looking for recommendations to read :D thanks
I started reading a lot of their fanfics in 2014 in my own language (Brazilian Portuguese) but currently there aren't many stories lol but I wasn't much of a shipper, I just liked reading stories, I think I started to like it on the show more after rewaching OS...especially Jotho (it was from power and play - Blacky! Battle During a Dark Night!! I think, and Diamomd and Pearl when they appear for 2 episodes) Oh well, there's all of Kanto and Jotho in Portuguese by an old Fansub from 2006 until 2018, that even subtitled Black and White, but he didn't finish Battle Frontier (the only one, actually) so another Fansub is taking it to finish it.
Also, where in the anime did you start shipping them? If it's a separate post, can you send a link so if as not to repeat the question If you have already answered a similar question, but changed your mind about something or have something new, you can add it
This came out bigger than intended sorry lfmao.
A very interesting post about Zensho if you intend to read it unfortunately it is an almost lost media...It's very difficult to get a physical copy and the translation that is available is not accurate according to the translator himself but it's still fun to read (it's one of my favorites) It seems like a mix of fidelity to the Red and Blue games with elements from the main anime, but factual differences between the characters' stories. Mainly more stuff about Oak/Shigeru's family I think it could be incorporated into Gary's character or not, I think that's up to people.
I think Shigeru's jealous relationship over Satoshi winning multiple times is funny, but there's a good reason behind it and the conclusion is adorable so I'm okay with it.
I wish more people knew Zensho because their dynamic is precious to me.
Another huge text omg...Thanks for reading again
Good!
I actually don't read Palletshipping fanfics often or even..at all.., But I do reccomends finding some at AO3, good shit there, I've seen really good mandarin shigesato fics actually, can't remember who wrote it..
Story time, I used to be a Gousato shipper actually.. (but for some reason when I saw the episode where Gary was coming back I was so excited and shit, mind you, I've never watched much pokemon anime prior to this, And the only pokemon anime I watched clips of was XY and black and white and yet the episode Gary came back I was jumping up and down.) I was in a relationship with a Gou kin back then but ya know some things never last.. just this year! I started to realize how much I actually truly liked shigesato (new year new me I guess.) I've always had liked it during my gousato phase (infact if I never invited that Gou kinnie to a RP server I used to be in I think It would've been a shigesato simp earlier lmao.) and once me and that old Gou kinnie started falling out I started to consume for Gary content and watching the original gen 1 anime and... That's when my storage space died bc I started downloading full videos and images.. teehee
Also that's a shame, hope someone in the fandom could find a link or something for the manga, I haven't had the time to research or find it yet so.. also I'm def drawing all 3 Gary versions one day, with all the blues...or green..or..glue..hhheheheh.... I want KitKat

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you so much for the tag @floofanflurr <3 I am always happy to yap about my fics! I'll pop this below the cut 'cause it's kinda long.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Eight under the timeofjuly account, and a few others scattered around other usernames and the anonymous collection.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 124,470 words, which is kinda crazy to look back on since I only started in August of last year.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Just Undertale at the moment, but I've written for a few other fandoms in the past.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Resisting the Current
Trick or Heat
Wishbone
Parallel Circuits
And Four Papyri in a Pear Tree
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! Always, though it sometimes takes me a little to get around to it. My favourite thing about writing fanfic is the sense of community that you build, so I love getting to chat about the fic in the comments. I always have a million and one thoughts that didn't make it to the page that I'm desperate to share. I also like to say thank you when people go out of their way to comment, because I really appreciate it. As a reader, I know I get super excited when an author replies to my comments.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'm going to go with a few of the RtC 'verse oneshots for this. I think Resolutions from Parallel Circuits ends on a pretty angsty note, particularly compared to the seemingly upbeat start. From Silver String, there will be no answer is pretty bleak and so is on my way home. I'm quite proud of how they both end, actually - I think they're my two strongest endings in the lot.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Any of the smut, probably? They're all set in happy established relationships and end on a cutesy note.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not for a very long time, no! I remember, many many years ago, posting my very first fic on fanfic.net lol and getting a very nasty review about how the reader didn't know the main pairing in the fic was m/m (slash back then, what a blast from the past) even though it was very clearly indicated in the summary and the AN at the start. It goes to show people have been bad at curating their own reading experiences by minding the tags and summaries since forever.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yep! Mostly established relationship stuff under this username so far.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I'm not super into cross-universe crossovers, but, same as @floofanflurr, I really like playing around with cross fic crossovers. I'm (slowly) writing a crack dialogue-only oneshot where the reader inserts of Wishbone and RtC are stuck together in a broken elevator lol. It's been a fun challenge! It's very very hard to put two characters who are normally referred to in the second person in the same scene, lemme tell you, which is why I ended up choosing to go dialogue only.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have not, but I'd be open to it!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nothing that I've posted! @marty-parties and I have been messing around with an underfell papyrus/reader fic, though! I also used to rp all the time, which I'd count as cowriting. I miss it very much, even though I used to get super easily overwhelmed by it.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
This is such a tough question. I'll pretty much read anything if I vibe with the ship dynamics (pining and unrequited love my beloved, I will read you anywhere no matter the ship or fandom), but I went through my bookmarks to actually get the stats on this. I used to be super into the mcu (I completely lost interest after endgame) so tony/steve and tony/steve/bucky were the most common ships. I have no clue what my favourite ship would be now, though.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Never say never, but I really want to write this horrortale isekai fic I've had bouncing around in my brain. I've fully plotted it out and it's set to only be five chapters, but I'm really struggling to actually write the thing. I have started it, though, so we'll see.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Characterisation, I think. And even though I mostly gravitate towards writing angsty stuff, I think humour and comedic timing is a strength of mine too.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Physical description and settings, 100%. I don't really picture anything in my head when I write, which means all that physical description doesn't make its way onto the page, and when it does, I'm just going off vibes. Particularly with setting - I have zero idea what the locations in any of my fics look like lol. Like, the house in RtC? No clue. Zero.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Really cool! I love it when people do this and I get to translate it, it's like a nice surprise.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter, I think? It's all scrubbed from the internet now though.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Wishbone. I am so attached to the Second Mage and Sans and Rus, you have no idea. Particularly Flint, I just adore them. Don't get me wrong, I love the electrician and Quinn and all of my ocs, but I have a special place in my heart for reader inserts who are nasty and hurting and lash out and aren't always the kind, considerate, emotionally stable person in the relationship, forever supporting others. I read something years ago that said to consider how your character is inclined to react to things, both good and bad, and how for lots of people, it's not in our nature to instinctively respond to things with kindness and openness. In fiction, we often expect our POV characters to deal with situations with emotional maturity that we ourselves, along with the majority of irl people, don't have. I think this rings true even more for reader inserts. It's fun to flip this on its head in Wishbone - what if instead of acting with an uncommon kindness, you do the opposite? You get to be flawed. You get to have the murky motives. You get to hurt and in turn you hurt others, and that hurting has real consequences on you and the people around you. This is also a great way to create angst lol - in the non-fell version of Wishbone, where everyone is generally just less of an asshole and therefore makes kinder choices, a lot of the events in the fic just wouldn't happen.
No pressure tag to @covfefeships and anyone else who'd like to do this!

20 Questions for the Writer
Tagged by @griseldabanks ^_^
1. How many works do you have on Ao3?
Only 18 :O I have a bunch on fanfiction.net that I never transferred over, but they're all an extra 10 or so years older than the Ao3 ones so ... there's some disparity of quality, partly in the writing but also very much in the content present.
2. What is your total Ao3 word count?
168,935
3. What fandoms do you write for?
FMA! I had other things when I was younger, but FMA bit and it's the one that stuck with me.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
A Bed Too Small (Mustang POV, same bed trope, tongue-in-cheek)
Wayward Youth (Hawkeye POV, learning about crushes and affection from the girls at her boarding school while seeking her father's attention)
Order 3066 (Hawkeye and Mustang POVs alternating, Ishval fic about being broken and coming out of it [still broken, but moving])
Partiality (Mustang POV, post-canon, broaching the topic of a relationship)
The Next Step (shifting POV, written soon after giving birth to my youngest and in a bit of a family-related haze. Mostly fluff.)
5. Do you respond to comments?
I certainly try to! I might have missed some along the way, but I usually get there!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hurrrghgh, one from my ff.net days: The Manga-ka Has Her Reasons. It was basically saying, hey, they can't get together guys - things will go bad if they do. And so it ended with them both dead.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I'd say The Next Step, because it's just fluffy and lovely :)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really. The last time I remember feeling taken aback by a comment it was over a decade ago and it was someone rightly pointing out a factual error I'd made. The FMA community I've found myself in is largely positive, and I don't know if that's about the FMA community in general, or that the stuff I write appeals to people who are just cool about community instead of looking to be jerks. Whatever the reason, I'm very grateful!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nah
10. Do you write crossovers?
I've got a half written FMA/HP crossover that I started in like 2005, resurrected a few years ago, and then haven't touched for the last year and a half. Sigh. It's probably going to be stuck in my brain forever.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not a fic
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Royai for suuuuure <3 I'm so big on romance as a side-plot, and if that's not the perfect way to explain their relationship I don't know what is. Like, FMA aside, their own personal story is that romance is their side-plot, not their main thing.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Wayward Youth! I have a few really rough drafts of later chapters that need to be edited, but I still haven't written all the way to the end and I'm happily working on another project with all the time/headspace I have, so I don't want to interrupt that flow. But I'm hoping to slowly accrue the last of it, then go through and make it presentable and post it one day.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I can write fairly clear action. And I like putting together a lot of threads to tug on as I go - not all big plot things necessarily, but just things that repeat again later to add an extra layer.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I don't know. I feel like I can write in a very blunt way sometimes, so I have to be intentional about adding in colour and emotion - that doesn't always come through on the first try.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I wouldn't do this to show to a native speaker, oh boy oh boy nosirree! Currently reading a book on English idioms and my main thought as I looked at it today is that this is exactly why I'll never consider myself fluent in other languages.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
In year 5 we had to co-write a story and my best friend and I basically wrote an AU of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
20. Favourite fic you've written?
Look, it depends on my mood. If I want something light and short, I can't go past Desperately Hoping He Didn't Look Like an Idiot (modern AU, Royai without angst). But I'm probably proudest of Order 3066, because it took a lot of work and a lot of emotional catharsis to get through that and I ended up with a bit of a deadline for when I had to finish it up and made it! So I feel good about it.
Tagging @scienceoftheidiot and @fullmetalscullyy if you're interested :)

Hey, how are you doing? I hope you’re alright. 💕 I’ve been reading your status updates on Constellations and the Epilogue, and I just wanted to let you know that I think you’re amazing. Your writing is incredible and I love it. Your stories are so well thought out and the characters are ✨on point✨, and the plot is complex and detailed and aaahhh! It has me hooked! 🤩
And I understand how it hurts when you put so much effort and love into a story, only to post it and not see others be anywhere near as excited or invested as you are. I know how discouraging it can be. And it may be a little silly, but I do want to apologize for not commenting lately—life took some difficult turns for me healthwise around the end of last year and I haven’t been able to catch up! I’m still on Chapter 4 of Constellations! 😭 BUT Chapter 5 is open on my phone, and I am READY to read it as soon as I have the time (and mental energy, but that’s a whole ‘nother issue 😩). Don’t worry that your writing isn’t enough, or be discouraged if some readers don’t catch hints while others are figuring it all out seemingly too easily. Everybody reads and comprehends stuff differently, and it’s not a sign that your writing is bad if they don’t catch it! Honestly, I’m pretty bad at catching hints the first time I read a story unless they’re pretty darn obvious. I don’t usually notice subtle hints until the second, or third, or even seventh read-through, haha! (on the bright side, rereading stories and rewatching TV shows is always fun!) 😅
I guess what I really wanted to say is… don’t give up hope. Don’t lose your love and enthusiasm for your works, or feel like they aren’t worth writing because others don’t seem interested in them. At the heart of it all… at the end of the day… write because you love to. Because it makes you happy. And know that it doesn’t have to be “perfect”—the main goal should be that you enjoy it. That’s something I’m trying to teach myself, too. 💕
Thank you for taking the time to write this message and send it. I appreciate you're very kind words 💕I'm doing okay, I just had to take a step back for a bit from socials and stuff. I'm gonna keep that up for a while.
Please don't apologize for not commenting or taking your time reading. Your health always comes first, and I'm sorry if I came off as childish or needy, that wasn't my intention. Two things just happened that set me off and the timing of it was incredibly poor 😓
Please take your time reading; none of it is going anywhere, and don't feel obligated to leave comments either. i'm realizing that, even if chapters are short or long, finding the time to finish things is difficult, and everyone lives different lives. And I'm sorry about all the spoilers on this blog, I'll tag that better from now on.
But I really do think I got confused or disjointed in my perceptions; everyone here knows so much because i've been asked questions and given answers and people have interacted, so people following me here have more context than the average ao3 user. But I've kinda been expecting everyone to be on the same page, which will never be true.
I'm also the same way where it takes me a while to pick up on hints. I actually changed my writing style to prevent this. I got tired of reading books in college where you had to dive into every little thing. the hints and clues weren't obvious to me. I decided then that, when I wrote, I wanted things to be bold, obvious, but beautiful. I didn't want to make readers feel like they're missing something. I wanted them to trust that every answer, every clue would be answered in time. I made that promise to myself a decade ago, and being reminded of how different people interpret things just...made me remember.
I take writing really seriously, probably too seriously, but I've been doing it for so long and I love doing it. I want to be good at it. When it feels like I've gone back on that promise to myself, I get frustrated. I think of ways I could've fixed things. But I also remember that those books and those writing styles just weren't for me. I wasn't the target audience.
Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I wanted to explain why I got upset. I still love Constellations and I'm posting it on ao3 out of convenience, really. It's easier to reference and search there in one "Entire Work" than to have 5 documents open. The fact that others can see and read and have fun is a bonus. But I'm committed to telling this story, and I'm gonna finish with a bang.
Thank you, I won't forget why I'm doing this and that my thoughts/feelings come first! 😤I hope your health concerns are taken care of soon. Take it easy, and thanks again! 💕

How I organise my (fic) writing in Notion
@this-geek wondered how I organised my works in Notion, and considering I'm nothing if not always happy to ramble about anything concerning lists and sorting my various things, here we are ;) thanks for giving me an excuse to talk about this haha
Under the cut because I have unfortunately rambled quite a bit (sorry!)
Okay so first off: I really only use Notion for my fic writing (I prefer to work on original projects in physical notebooks or Word, for reasons unknown to even me) and I only keep my first drafts in here. I move on to Google Docs for second drafts (again, who knows why I do this? I sure don't!) Anyway, onto the organisation:
Tumblr media
This is what my main page looks like! I have some fancy sidebars I never really use, the to do list is horribly outdated, and I haven't updated that quote (from one of my favourite book series: The Locked Tomb) in ages, but I still think it looks nice!
The thing this is mainly about, though, is the part in the middle that says "all fics". This is what Notion calls a database. It's basically one gigantic collection of pages (in my case: fics) that you can add tags to and display in various different ways. I prefer gallery view because it allows me to add a picture to the overview if I want to. I used to do this for my Locked Tomb fics and it looked pretty fun:
Tumblr media
The thing is that it's also a lot of work to find pictures to match your fics (and nowadays I'm more focused on writing than all the thing surrounding it) so my Golden Girls overview looks more like this! I still like the gallery view because it gives you a little preview of every wip :)
Tumblr media
As you can see, there's lots of different tags under the titles. The stuff you see in this view is a quick overview (mostly to help with sorting, so all my posted wips line up, and the rest shows up according to which state of unfinishedness they're currently in)
When you click any fic in this view, you'll be taken to the actual fic, and its complete overview of tags & info! I like to keep track of a lot of things (when I remember to, anyway). Here's a little overview for the things I tracked for the finish line :)
Tumblr media
Created: shows me the date I started the document (and therefore the fic). Very useful! I love this feature a lot
Fandom: is mainly there for organisation purposes! I set my gallery view to toggle per fandom, so it's all sorted into neat little sections thanks to this tag
Characters: pretty self explanatory
Type: I've got several categories here: "one-shot", "multi-chapter", "drabble", "ficlet", and (reserved for one AU in particular) "i honestly don't know anymore"
Status: again, there's quite a few options for this one: "plotting", "writing draft 1", "1st draft", "2nd draft", "finished", "posted", "hiatus" and "abandoned" (which I rarely use)
Quick summary: is where I play around with my ao3 summary whenever I'm bored and don't really feel like writing
Draft 1 wc: I usually just put the final word count for the first draft there, unless I remember to track individual writing sessions (in which case I add those word counts as well, like in the example above, because I love looking back on the process!)
Draft 2 wc: I tend to completely retype a fic into my google docs for the second draft. Once I've done that I put the end result into my Notion doc
Finished wc: after I've reread and edited my 2nd draft, and possibly managed to have it all get a little out of hand (like you can see in that doubled word count for the finish line, lol) I put the finished word count here!
WC goal: is just a fun way to see what my initial idea was for the fic (I try to set a goal when I've got a general idea of what I want the work to look like, and always end up exceeding it)
The rest of it is just my writing, basically! Scroll down from there and you get the body for the fic :)
I hope this was somewhat helpful! I'm not a pro at Notion by any means, but if you have any questions or need some help, feel free to ask! I'm happy to try to help out!

Fanfiction Author Interview Game
Thank you to @danger-tits-lute
How many works do you have on AO3?
13
What's your total AO3 word count?
168,636
Though if I were to add the word count from fics I hadn't posted there, that's an additional 10,263 words of published fic. Those can be found here (the full collection of my writing partner and I's Treasure Planet collaboration). Technically they weren't posted to AO3 or Fanfic.net since neither my writing partner nor I felt it right to post in those places since some of those fics only the worlds are used. Mostly moments and stories for our main OC's.
Your top 5 stories by kudos:
Turning a Blind Mind (My Hero Academia)
No Eye for Design (My Hero Academia)
Pressed Flowers (My Hero Academia)
Stolen Valor (Treasure Planet)
A Waltz to Remember (Star Trek: The Original Series)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to though I don't end up always doing so. I don't think I did in the beginning? But I can't quite recall.
Do you write crossovers?
Yes and no. My Treasure Planet universe with my writing partner has specific crossovers with Tarzan and Atlantis: The Lost Empire, but in those cases it was more because they fit into the late Victorian, early Edwardian time frame that Treasure Planet is loosely based on, and we were able to adapt them to Treasure Planet's generous setting. Definitely not something I do lightly.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No. Not that I don't like smut, I just haven't written it.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of!
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Oh the vast majority of my Treasure Planet stuff was a co-writing situation. The only reason any of those fics got longer than a chapter was because of my writing partner lol.
What's your all-time favourite ship?
I'll give two answers since my actual absolute favorite ship to write was a pair of OC's my partner and I wrote for: Dr. Eleanor Gray and Charlotte Ko. GUUUH I love them. As far as characters that actually exist in other works, I very much enjoyed writing for Erasermic in My Hero Academia.
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
As much as it pains me, probably Ascent. I started it because I was in a sort of dark place in my life, but I also wanted to prove that I could write a longer fic WITHOUT my partner. Yeah, well, it was clear how THAT went. There was also a fic that I wanted to do since I was helping John's Hopkins with a research project that included the Spanish Flu Pandemic as a scenario basis as it was 100 years since that event. It was going to be the Treasure Planet characters dealing with a pandemic in Port Crescentia with Dr. Gray being the highlight as the main medical professional. I got delayed because of grad school and another fic, but when I was finally ready to start? The Covid pandemic hit and things got a bit TOO real. Maybe one of these days I'll go back to it, but it was very uncanny.
What are your writing strengths?
If you ask my writing partner, it would be brevity. Not to diss me, but I could distill one of his thoughts much more succinctly. I guess I also enjoy domestic fluff a LOT. Though I don't know if I'd say I'm GOOD at it.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Description, I think. Especially visually. Follow through on anything that I can't get done in one sitting. Two max.
What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
Cheap shot and going with Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss. I RP in it but I haven't made official fics yet. Though I've written some drabbles for friends, but I've never published them anywhere. Not sure if I want to since those are often highly specific AU's or scenarios.
What's your favourite fic that you've written?
Two answers on this one too. The best time I had writing a fic was actually entirely OC's in the Treasure Planet setting. Training Day is about some Navy Medics in training going through an unconventional exercise intended to get them ready for a chaotic battle scenario. I was crying laughing through part of it. For one with canon characters? Really hard to chooooose but I think No Eye for Design. It and its sequel were more about me working through what it means to me to have aphantasia. While its predecessor, Turning a Blind Mind, is probably more meaningful, this one has some cute fluff I greatly enjoyed. As a bonus, my favorite scene ever to write was actually in Atlantis Returns. No spoilers, but Kida merges with the Heart of Atlantis and while my partner wrote most of it or we were collaborative, I wrote that scene entirely myself. Just really proud how it came out.
Tagging: .... idk who among here writes fic that is published to AO3 but if you see this and want to do it, let me know and let me SEE.

literally going to hell for this but whatever, i've just finished reading silmarillion last week and honestly, you've put into words what ive been thinking about finwe and his actions. i remember going 'what' everytime i see people's posts and fics about indis and her children because its such a far cry from the books themselves. like did the fandom also suffer from the fanon vs canon thingy?
Hi! Welcome to the fandom!
I don’t think you’re at all alone in your reaction to Finwë - I think he rubs most people the wrong way for a whole gamut of reasons. He seems to ge trying to have things both ways, and as a consequence ends up failing everyone - both sides of his family, and his people as well.
It’s a big fandom and there are plenty of different perspectives, but yes, on the whole, large parts of both both tumblr and AO3 have some serious issues distinguishing between fanon and canon when it comes to the Fëanoreans, and any characters who dare disagree with, oppose, or be harmed by the Fëanoreans. The former will be treated as justified in everything; the latter will be villainized. Elwing was a major target in the past, but that’s abated to a degree; Thingol still is, to the point where I’ve seen people say they hate him for [insert things that are made up entirely and the opposite of his canon actions] and largely ignore his canon portrayal, and act as if the text is behind them. (Guys, he’s got enough of his own flaws, there’s no need to invent new ones out of thin air!) Beren, Lúthien, Dior, Nimloth, Elwing, Eärendil - people will act like they’re in the wrong for having been subjected, variously, to attempted murder, attempted rape, and actual murder by the Fëanoreans. I haven’t run into a lot of stuff villainizing Indis and her children, but I have seen a few fanfics of that sort and they always make me hit the back button immediately.
For these reasons, I’ve ended up as pretty selective about what fanfic I read, because the character distortion in a large part of it is extreme. Apparently it used to be worse in the past; Elwing-hatred is a minority now on tumblr, it seems like, whereas years ago it was pervasive. There are still piles of older fanfics (and some new ones too) that treat Elwing as being obviously to blame for the Fëanoreans choosing to massacre her people, take her sons captive, and drive her to suicidal despair - and, worse, treat Elrond has having this perspective.
I suspect that some of this is coming from some very big, very popular older fanfics that created an image of the story and characters that is frequently confused with canon, and that a lot of people used as a jumping-off point.
Another element in fanon vs canon question is that there’s also a pile of in-between stuff: material that comes from Tolkien’s marginalia and other drafts that isn’t in the Silmarillion. Some very popular fandom stuff - though not the non-Fëanorean-character bashing - comes from there. (For example, Maedhros’ hair being red and him being attractive, and literally having a name that means ‘good-looking’, are some of the most widely-known things in fandom despite never being mentioned in the Silm, as some of Tolkien’s notes mentioned them. The main characters’ Quenya names - Maitimo or Nelyafinwë or Russandol rather than Maedhros, Makalaurë rather than Maglor, etc - are also from there, and you’ll see them all over the place. I wasn’t aware of any of that before I joined the fandom, but but within fandom it’s everywhere.) So it’s hard, sometimes, to know whether something is a widespread piece of fanon, or something from other books. This also plays into the Finwë situation, because one of the things that vary between versions is whether he remarried almost right away, while Fëanor was still a kid, or whether he remarried when Fëanor was an adult. Christopher Tolkien chose the material for the Silmarillion in order to have a coherent story - so, for example, some characters (for example, two daughters of Finwë and Indis) who existed in parts of some drafts but not in others are left out of the Silm, because it wouldn’t work to have them disappearing halfway through the story.
So that all adds into the issues because if people want to villainize one character or build up another one, they’ll go to different drafts and pull out all the most negative things about one character and all the positive things they can find about another.
There’s still a lot of good stuff in fandom, and a lot of good fic, and on the whole I’ve enjoyed things hugely (I started reading fanfic around 2018-2019 and joined tumblr fandom in 2020, so I’m comparatively new). And there is a lot of interesting stuff about the Fëanoreans - but it can sometimes tend to drown out - or at worst, shout down - fan material on other characters.

I am obviously biased, but as someone who tagged you in the WIP game, I'd love for you to do it! I'm curious, okay? I wanna know what's scrambling around up there, if your mess is as messy as mine? So if there is any chance of me swaying you, please do it? Puppy eyes or flirtatious brow waggle or digital cookies, whichever would have the greatest effect on you?
😂❤ akjds thank you friend !! i am planning on doing the WIP game ...tonight? tomorrow? maybe today-- i was out of commission earlier this week, so im making up on missed work today, but maybe it'll make a good break as my eyes water between spreadsheets hmm 🤔😂
re messy process: i am. such a messy writer. i'm such a vibe gardener lol. you wouldn't be able to see this from my writing folder tho. look at my kp folder:
Tumblr media
most of my fic folders look like this! organized by fandom > folders for series/multi-chapter fics and working docs in the middle. all the docs in the series folders are numbered for easy finding. i even have handy folders for posted (finished) stuff to keep the working docs/series space cleaned and a compost folder for old discarded drafts/snippets/etc. you would think this would indicate a clean approach to writing!
h a h
what's not present in this folder are my many, many phone notes full of writing snippets (or the many, many other snippets i have written in notebooks) (...or other snippets saved as starred emails in my inbox, which i do not recommend after my last email panic lol) or my DMs with friends. which, honestly, DMs with friends deserves its own asterisk, it's hands down my biggest writing vice. i actually make a point not to (or at least, only rarely) copy out story notes from my DMs because it's just. i always have so many ideas. all the time. to handle them, my approach is i will remember if it's worth remembering, and if i forget them, probably for the best anyways. until im at a point where there's a cohesive story around the idea or enough of them have bumped up into each other to make a story, who cares (at which point, i...still don't copy out the ideas. like. at all. 💦). this is absolutely infuriating to some of my friends who really like some of the ideas i chuck around, esp when i have the audacity to forget them 😂
(ideas in friends DMs is the main thing fueling my fics i'm not writing ask game actually! it's a lot more freeing to me to just be able to put the idea out there along with any individual scenes i want to write without having to actually write the whole fic. i haven't really found the best way to post the scenes to AO3 yet, but ehh, future cookie problem.)
sorry, i wound up just rambling about a lot of nothing here 😂 i'm actually feeling very pumped up to play the WIP game post now tho, clearly i need more enrichment during my breaks 😂
(so uhh. your persuasion tactics: success! ✔)

20 Questions
tagged by @artemis-devotee.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 9 works on several levels of finished on AO3;
I also had an FFdotnet account with a couple fics and I wrote stuff I mostly only shared with friends back in elementary school.
2. What’s your total AO3 words count?
17,379
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Inuyasha is and will always be my main fandom. On AO3, I have one chapter of a Frozen fic that I might go back to eventually.
I have written for Pokémon, Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura and Harry Potter, though these are not posted anywhere online that I know of.
And I have since distanced myself from Harry Potter for obvious reasons (terfs can go die mad)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
All from Inuyasha and I'm not surprised since these are the most recent and the ones I've actually talked about within the fandom ^^
Before You Came Back
Snow
Kagome's Power
Caught in a Wave
Before I Came Back
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Usually not, because I won't add anything to the conversation besides a "thank you" and I forget as soon as I tab out of the email XD
But if it's a long one, I absolutetly do respond!
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
None yet? I do have ideas, and I do love angst, but I usually give the characters at least on ok ending. Also most of my fics are unfinished as of now.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
So far, Kagome's Power, Before You Came Back / Before I Came Back are tied as they are all super angst with a happy ending.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
None that I have seen thank you very much
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Yes, none are posted though. I'm starting to explore this side of writing so look forward to smutty fics in the cards =D
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I have a few crossover ideas, but none are written yet
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know? Please don't steal, it's free! There's no reason to steal!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Again, I don't know. IF YOU TRANSLATE MY STUFF PLZ LET ME KNOW SO I CAN CRY HAPPY TEARS WITH YOU!
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
I've collabed with artists, but never another writer. That'd be cool to do one day.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
I'm InuKag trash and I shall not apologize
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Look. LOOK. I'M GONNA FINISH IT OK? (it isn't even posted yet, I'm outlining it)
16. What are your writing strengths?
Character work and worldbuilding. These are the things I LOOOOOVEEE
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Fight scenes. WHY DO I LOVE SHOUNEN? WHY?
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I mean, I'm a Brazilian writer writing in english, so either write it in the language (and make it accurate if it's a real-world language so it's an easter egg for fans) if the point is that the pov character doesn't understand it, or just say it was said in said language if the pov character understands it.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Sailor Moon, Harry Potter and Inuyasha are tied for these, because I honestly can't remember what was my actual first fic
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
So far, I LOOOVE Kagome's Power and reread it often.
Anyone can do this if they want, but I'm tagging @wind-on-the-panes, @razdazberry and @anisaanisa

20 Questions for Writers
Tagged by the lovely @thequeenofthewinter to answer some questions, and I will leave an open tag to anyone who wants to answer to feel free to say that I tagged them 💛
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
I have three, at present - I have posted many a fic to AO3 over the years, but with my current account, just three.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
70,506 at present
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Elder Scrolls at present, though only have Skyrim posted at present - hoping to get something for Oblivion posted soon though! I've also recently dabbled in writing some things for BG3, and also Stardew Valley (though I don't think that any of them will be posted unless I find myself very satisfied with how they end up). Historically, I've delved into and posted Fire Emblem (primarily Awakening/Fates/Three Houses because they were the main games I had played), and even further back (back when I first started writing fanfic when I was about 12/13! I just realised I've been writing fanfic for half my life writing that out!) Pokemon.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
As I only have three fics posted on AO3, I can only do them, but in order: 1. The Perfect Storm (it's my main and longest fic to date, so unsurprising) with 117 kudos 2. Purity (a Vilkas/Dragonborn oneshot) with 17 kudos 3. Seeking the Sun (prequel to The Perfect Storm which I started on after it!) with a mere 2 kudos.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Where I can string together a coherent thought, and if I remember (and I am terrible at remembering!) I try to!! But I do read every single one, even if I don't remember to respond.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Now, as I haven't finished any fics (as of yet) beyond a few oneshots, I will have to base my answer on some plans for the few fics which I have planned out, and I believe that the story with my Hero of Kvatch Aelia is most likely to have the angstiest ending. She throws away her entire support network, including friends and family, to wallow in her misery and grief in the Shivering Isles, descending into madness, because all she wants to do is bring Martin back.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I really want it to be The Perfect Storm! I haven't planned out the ending for it yet, but I want it to be happy. However, I shall delight in stirring the pot and make Elyse and Balgruuf work for that happy ending, you hear? 😂
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really? The closest thing to that which I got was being told that my writing was 'too dramatic'... Shame that I love writing me some drama. Dramatics can be taken from my cold, dead hands.
9. Do you write smut?
Yeah, though I don't think that I've posted any of it yet.... I still need to actually finish the smut which I was writing for my birthday. My birthday which was over a month ago. Ooops.
10. Do you write crossovers?
Nope. I just don't really like them. It's something I've always got to filter out when reading fics.... The closest I'd get to writing a crossover is, say, references to stuff from Oblivion in a Skyrim fic? But would that technically even be a crossover, if they're both Elder Scrolls? Though they are separate games....
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Again, no, not that I know of...
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Does it count if I tried co-writing a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fic with a self-insert shiny Eevee with a ff.net friend when I was like 13 that we never posted???? If not, no!
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Honestly... I think it might be the fic based around Elyse's parents, Ingja and Edwyn, which I've only posted the first chapter to here on Tumblr. I know their story - it's all very firmly in my head, and is set to be referred to across Seeking the Sun and The Perfect Storm, but I simply don't think that I would be able to finish it... Plus I like keeping Edwyn's fate very vague. Though Ingja dies, because Elyse will meet her in Sovngarde when she goes to fight Alduin, what happens to Edwyn I've left ambiguous, hence why I don't think I would be able to finish it. He simply leaves one day and after sending Elyse a handful of letters he disappears. It gives me opportunity to maybe bring him in at some point down the line in The Perfect Storm... I kinda want to write a scenario where Balgruuf meets Edwyn now. Damn.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I'd like to say dialogue. I don't like putting dialogue into a fic unless I can mentally hear the line in the character's voice, if that makes any sense? If I can't hear it, or can't imagine a character saying it, I won't include it. But in addition to that, a lot of my scene-building and whatnot comes from using dialogue as a baseline. Obviously there are times where that isn't the case, but I do love writing little conversations to push a scene along.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I do believe that just as it is a strength, dialogue is also a weakness! Sometimes, I find myself over-relying on dialogue simply to 'fill space'. Where something like non-verbal communication, or environmental descriptions or even a change of scene would fit better, I'll just throw in some dialogue in the same way that I add cheese to meals - in overabundance! In addition, I would say that finding a way to bridge scenes together is another weakness of mine. I can have a chapter mostly complete, but without that one last bridging moment - often simply a sentence or paragraph or two which can join two scenes together - I simply cannot bring myself into completing it.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue on another language in a fic?
Now, in terms of reading it, I find it really cool as long as some sort of way to translate it is available! In that vein, I do sometimes use some of the dragon language in my fics - mostly when a dragonborn is communicating with Paarthurnax or Odahviing - and I'll have a full list of translations to include in the end notes. On that note, I swear that I have https://www.thuum.org/ open in a separate tab almost constantly when I'm writing just in case!!! I've always found that most useful when trying to include the dragon language.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
That'd probably have to be for Pokemon Ranger Guardian Signs, though none of those fics were ever typed up (I think???). I still remember excitedly pulling the odd page from school exercise books to staple together whilst scavenging for pens to write me some more Pokemon Ranger fanfic.......
20. Favourite fic you've written?
The Perfect Storm, absolutely. Though I do sometimes think of going back to work on/improve some of my earlier chapters in the fic, in particular surrounding Elyse's experience in Windhelm because I'm not as in love with that as I once was. My love for Balgruuf (and Elyse, and the two of them together!) fuels my love, favouritism, and bias towards the fic.

Hi, I don't know if this is okay to ask so please just ignore me if I'm overstepping but I wanted to know if I should watch for fic updates on tumblr or on archive? I know you linked Pas de Deux here and you post little fanfic snippets here so I wasn't entirely sure where to look.
Hello! For fic updates, I'd recommend you watch ao3/subscribe to the fic you're interested in, so you'll get a notification when I update! I do post snippets to tumblr, but as a rule, I don't post full fics/complete chapters on here. Just little teasers of things I'm working on, or ideas that I (usually but also it happens anyway) don't plan on fleshing out into a full fic. Think of it like the behind the scenes content!
Obviously following me on tumblr will get you a lot more fic. Since I don't have to worry about things being finished, I can way more often about my projects, and I love talking about them here. I know I take forever between updates (I'm a fulltime nursing student + I work, so I'm clocking 60 hours a week between the hospital and school, and that doesn't even count study time, let alone sleep), but I'm always happy to talk about my fics here! If you're ever curious about what's going to happen in the next chapter, you can just ask, and I'll usually have a snippet ready to go!
In that case, the easiest way to track my writing on tumblr is to go through my #cookie writes, which is my tag for all of my writing. And it's a lot more organized than trying to go through the ship or character tags, bc I don't always remember to include those lol (and sometimes I write naughty stuff that I don't want ending up in main tags 👀)

State of the whatever #I'm sorry women
Hi guys sorry about the (mostly) radio silence for the past couple months. I know I know I shouldn't be apologizing, I don't owe you guys anything (and don't youse be getting it into your heads that I do), but like, I still feel bad, and I feel bad about not getting Housesnared posting-ready in time. Admittedly some of my procrastination on that front was because MSPFA was down for maintenance for a couple months. But it was also procrastination-procrastination. I have some sort of deadline-avoidance syndrome or something.
Anyway. What was I going to say? Right. Progress on Housesnared. Not much of it since Ash Wednesday and my previous State of the Etaverse update. I finished another main character intro and fleshed out some of the others a bit more. Other than that? Nothin'.
Part of this was because other projects (Homestuck-based or non) suddenly looked a heck of a lot more appealing to me now that I had this stupid self-imposed deadline hanging over me. I finished another chapter of Meteor Science Theater 413000 over Lent, along with two (out of three) sections of this Kittyquest supplementary fic thing. (I think I've linked to both of these in this blog since their posting. If you're interested, go find 'em. They're both on my AO3 (u/n @meowloudly15).)
And also non-Homestuck nonsense, but check my main if you'd like to see all that.
I also did some other Homestuck stuff that I haven't completed/posted yet. More on that as it's completed. :3
Okay SO. uh. I have an idea but I would like your feedback on it. I could post more of my Housesnared stuff, like work-in-progress panels and things and scripts and stuff and character bios. While the idea intrigues me, I am also kind of worried about spoilering you guys if you don't want to be spoilered, if you just wanna see the finished product. That said, here are some pros:
I Wanna Talk About This Story With People !!!!!
Good way to get feedback or suggestions. I always envisioned Housesnared as being at least partly fan-driven. I could post a character profile and go "give me FAMILY MEMBER IDEAS" and maybe get a single comment?
A way for me to feel like I'm being at least a little productive, to show myself "hey look how far you've come up this enormous mountain you've concocted for yourself like seriously WHY did you decide to start writing a 48-player fansession without any support from friends or anything" it's because I'm insane, Jennifer. That's why.
I think I had another reason I just don't remember what it is
OH RIGHT a way to garner more interest in my story and characters. Kind of like Sovereignstuck has been doing
help me please
ANYWAY. Tell me what you think lads

I have created...more statistics. and also I did write a bit today so now I have to re-do some of my charts tomorrow lmao
this time I just used ao3 stats mostly, and looked at things across the years rather than just 2024
looking at how much I've posted to ao3 this year versus other years:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
48% of my words on ao3 are from this year! kind of makes me wish I'd finished one more fic and gotten it to 50 or more, but also I acknowledge this Does Not Matter
I'm really happy with how much I wrote & shared this year honestly, especially since before that it had all been dormant since 2021. I'm not always gonna be lucky enough to have two big hyperfixations per year though (truly if I could control how often I go into hyperfixation mode, I would become impossibly powerful). and realistically if I want to write more original stuff next year, that may well mean less fic
now looking at my total posted wordcount split up by fandom:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
bnha was 57% of what I posted this year and 62% overall. it's still wild to me that I wrote more than twice as much for persona than for tma when I feel like I was into tma for way longer.
and finally looking at average wordcount per fic split up across my main fic writing phases:
Tumblr media
fun to see that number creeping higher! if you exclude a soft place to land for being an outlier, which I probably should, the average for 2024 bnha phase drops to 6092 - but still!
getting kind of sappy now but. the huge place bnha has in all these figures does make me a little emotional, because I so clearly remember that period in late 2019 when I was like oh...people will read the things I write? and be kind? on a scale I could not have fathomed before?
I hadn't had anything like that before, and it made such an impact. while there are lots of reasons I come back to this fandom over and over that relate to the content itself, it's also the legacy of that kindness that makes me write so much for it I think.
idk if I'll post anything more for bnha next year, but I do think and hope I'll come back around to it again some day, even more verbose and self-indulgent than the last time.
it's kind of absurd and wonderful how many words I have put into the internet at this point, but even more so that anyone listened to them. might be obvious from how much I write about characters who struggle to communicate, but. it is not a small thing to me, to talk and be listened to.
sdhkjfh these are the bonus emotions you get access to for putting up with my graphs first.
so I could have just been satisfied with the statistics provided to me by ao3 about how many words I wrote & posted this year, but instead I decided to be insane and make a big spreadsheet adding up every creative word I wrote this year, categorised by fandom and whether it was posted or unposted, and then make a bunch of charts.
the funniest consequence of doing this is that I can't write anything for the rest of today or tomorrow or I would have to redo my charts. chart-assigned writer's block.
here is some inspo if you too would like to be insane, and also me rambling about my own writing microstatistics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
mostly what fascinates me about these statistics is the consistency! e.g. I apparently consistently posted almost exactly two thirds of what I wrote for both bnha and persona. my totals in terms of posted/unposted are very similar too, although slightly skewed by the inclusion of the very little original fiction I wrote this year, which is obvs not gonna be "posted."
and unsurprisingly I wrote and posted the most for bnha, but persona 5 holds its own! especially considering I was only writing for p5 for like 2 months
this was so satisfying that I really want to make more of these now lmao. not adding up total words written for past years bc that part was a pain (google docs UI my beloathed), but using ao3 stats to create charts/my own even more granular statistics. word count by year. average fic length by fandom. the world is my oyster truly
